Excuse me whilst I stretch... today was a long day in the truck but we were ready to tackle it having slept so well. Once again, it was a beautiful sunny day (!) we packed the truck, checked out of our cabin and headed north through Custer State Park towards the Crazy Horse Memorial. In brief: Sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski and Lakota Chief Henry Standing Bear officially started Crazy Horse Memorial June 3, 1948. The memorial's mission is to honor the culture, tradition and living heritage of North American Indians.
It is a formidable design and concept... the face was uncovered in 2008 and work still continues there today, it is to dwarf Mt Rushmore once it's completed - it's that big. We picked up our free rock from the blasting site and thought about how this one lone rock could sell on eBay for millions in a few years time. or not.
We went back to Ollie in the truck (unintentionally parked in a Blasting Zone - he seemed fine...) and continued north until we re-connected with our old friend, I-90. From here on in it was straight driving through South Dakota, in to Wyoming and in to Montana where I managed to spy a coyote from the car, to Bozeman - our destination for the next 3 nights.
In retrospect, South Dakota is quite an incredible state, it has some of the most impressive landscape we've seen yet and some of the most amazing feats of engineering and one even Wonder of The World.
Vermont Plate Sightings = 1
Coyote Sightings = 1
As a side note: Crazy Horse was died on the 6th September a few hundred years ago and today is the 6th... quite a coincidence.
