Well, we made it. Sorry this has taken so long to conclude but we have been waiting for internet access to be set up at the house as we're both getting a little tired of internet cafes.

Our first cloudy day. But not for long, the sun soon came out.

Ketchum, ID to Elko, NV: 250 Miles
Farewell Ketchum and Sun Valley. After thinking about it a little more, we decided not to stay here for one more night but to push on in to Elko, we could make the most of the day without needing a room for the night. Steve chose his bike route so went off on that adventure and Ollie and I went back to the base area and then for a swim. There we were accosted by the same aged lady who had about 8 yappy dogs in her possession, or lack of; they yipped and squeaked and chased Ollie around and around in small circles snapping at his ankles: he clearly was not having fun with his tail wedged firmly between his hind legs. "Oh, they love to chase, they won't hurt but they love to chase" simpered the old lady. The last straw was when one of the short legged snappy ones kicked dirt all over my bag with it's back legs, that was it; I grabbed my things, saved Ollie and marched up back to the hotel.
We waited for Steve to ring to let us know that he'd finished and when he had, we drove down to the Trail Head and loaded up the truck and set off for some lunch then headed on our way out of the town to Elko, NV.
Luckily it was short driving day so we arrived in Elko at 8pm (we'd also gained our last hour), we checked in to our hotel, ate some pizza and went to bed ready for our ultimate drive tomorrow in to California.

Ketchum, ID
Need I mention that it was another 80 degree sunny day?

Teton NP, WY to Ketchum, ID: 260 miles
As the clear sky and bright stars would dictate, it was a cold night. Ollie had an extra blanket that we wrapped him in and seemed to sleep soundly apart from the occasional low growl to the apparent noises outside - just to let everyone know that he was in charge.
Bozeman to Yellowstone NP/Grand Teton NP to Jackson WY
We thought the best thing to do was to combine the last 2 days in to one blog as Wednesday consisted of us driving to Yellowstone, NP from Bozeman and then yesterday was Yellowstone, NP to Teton NP.

Bozeman, MT
For those of you that had noticed some clouds in the sky yesterday, Montana absolutely made up for it today with a crisp, cool, sunny day. We went to breakfast at our 'usual' spot and made a plan to firstly go for a and to check out Big Sky tomorrow as it was on the way to Yellowstone NP.

Bozeman, MT
Custer State Park, SD to Bozeman, MT: 450 miles
Excuse me whilst I stretch... today was a long day in the truck but we were ready to tackle it having slept so well. Once again, it was a beautiful sunny day (!) we packed the truck, checked out of our cabin and headed north through Custer State Park towards the Crazy Horse Memorial. In brief: Sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski and Lakota Chief Henry Standing Bear officially started Crazy Horse Memorial June 3, 1948. The memorial's mission is to honor the culture, tradition and living heritage of North American Indians.

Badlands to Black Hills National Forest(& Mt. Rushmore) 111 miles
Woke up early to another bluebird sunny day still in our lunar landscape aka the Badlands. Ollie our reliable alarm clock woke up early as he knows that he gets fed first. Then next we got the stove out and boiled water for coffee and tea, always a good way to start the day. Packed up our things as usual and loaded up the truck. We set off to the Badlands visitor's center to pick up some info and maps. They had some great exhibits there that showed the millions of years of natural history that had taken place within the Badlands. We left the visitor and started out on the Badlands loop road. After seeing many Prairie Dogs (think squirrels mixed with groundhogs...very funny) squeaking about and running in and out of the homes in the ground, we came across some Bighorn Sheep lying around on some rock as sure footed as anything. The views within the Badlands are absolutely amazing. It is extremely hard to capture the awesomeness and sheer expanse of the landscape. You can really see how the land had transformed over the millions and millions of years. We then took a detour down the Sage Creek Road, which is still within the Badlands NP, but it turns to dirt road and takes you out to more remote areas. There we came up on some Bison grazing and looking as massive as they do. Again it is hard to capture in words or photos the scenery and wildlife.
So on down the road we went eventually meeting back up with a paved road that would take us to the town of Wall (Home of Wall Drug) and back to I-90. Of course in Wall South Dakota we had to make a stop at Wall Drug since we had seen signs for it back in Minnesota. As you can imagine, Wall Drug is pretty much the only thing that makes up Wall South Dakota. It is a conglomerate of shops, shops and more shops that contain everything from cowboy boots to an oversize statue of a rabbit with a saddle (ask Camilla). Leaving Wall, SD believe it or not we spotted our first Vermont license plate of the trip. I don't think they noticed our plates, nor do I think they would have cared, but of all places to see a Vermonter it had to be Wall, SD! So on down the road we went, heading for the Black Hills of South Dakota.
We were making good time today and we only had about 100 miles to go to get there, we decided we would see Mt. Rushmore. We arrived there at about 5pm and parked in the garage because of the shade for Ollie. It seems that this Senator is not welcome at this presidential wonder of the world. That was fine since he had a good runaround earlier in the day and he had his own blog to update. Again the scale of Mt. Rushmore and the artistic work it had taken over so many years was amazing. We have seen it so many times on TV and in movies, but to see it up close and in person is inspiring. Needless to say we took a lot of photos. After gazing up at the monument for a while we decided to head back to the truck and drive into Custer state Park for the night. Since it was a very busy holiday weekend, all of the tent campsites were booked up, so we stayed at the Creekside Lodge where we got our own cabin...yeah shower!
Tomorrow...see Crazy Horse Monument then drive to Bozeman Montana

Madison WI to Albert Lea, MN 265 miles
Couldn't get Internet access, so this blog is yesterday's. :) Last night we made a plan to pack up the car and go in to Madison for breakfast and to see a little more of the city. First thing, Steve went for a run and spied a dog park where dogs didn't have to be on a lead - Quann Dog Park. Then we packed up and headed to the dog park to allow Ollie to run around at top speed chasing the ball. After he was quite exhausted we headed in to downtown, parked in a garage and set off to find Sunrise Cafe as recommended by someone yesterday evening: there we ate an overcooked omelet and drank indifferent cups of tea and coffee... so much for a local recommendation. If Madison wasn't in the mid-west it would certainly be on Our List if we were ever to consider moving back to a city, it was clean, full of young people and the they were really nice (once again, the weather was a beautiful sunny day which always helps.) The University was located centrally in the city so we drove around and saw the new students wandering aimlessly around - we obviously looked like locals as we were asked a couple of times if we knew where places were: The Agricultural Building for one - we had no idea.
Onwards to Sioux Falls. As we were heading out of the city we stopped at a Whole Foods, stocked up on some supplies, crammed it in to the truck - how we find room boggles us both, but we did. Our GPS lady, aka Serena took us out of Madison on Rte 12 which ran adjacent to I-90, it was a rolling road that took us through farm land and corn fields and provided us with some lovely views. As we crossed the Mississippi River into Minnesota the landscape changed to very rugged (briefly) then became flat once again. As we cruised along the Southern border of Minnesota and Iowa we realised that we might not make it to our campsite in Sioux Falls by night fall and as neither of us are fans of putting up a tent in the dark, we looked for a site a little closer. It seemed for the moment all we could find were KOA or Jellystone (!!) Park on the side of the Highway and even "Serena" had no idea as we were guided to a corn field that may have once been a park or campsite! So we went Old School and pulled out the map - Steve found Big Island State Park just outside Albert Lea, MN. We arrived there around 5.30pm and were allotted site #23 - it was wooded park on the edge of a huge lake a far cry from Jellystone (!). We saw a beautiful sunset on the glass like water, then Ollie ran in and splashed around... we started a fire, cooked up our sausages, Indiana corn and had a Madison, WI Spotted Cow beer.
After a very restful and peaceful night we had breakfast, a cup of tea and coffee and some cereal. Played Tetris with the truck and here we are now at a TA Truck Stop on our way to the Badlands, SD.

Toledo, OH to Madison WI: 385 miles
After checking out and finding a bite to eat, we set off for WI on another beautifully sunny day. Reuniting with I-90 at Toledo we drove on towards Indiana and were lucky enough to see some of Indiana's Gems (all of which are quite noteworthy): Fremont: The US Capital of Fireworks as advertised by an oversized billboard and the "Hall of Fame of Motor Homes and RV's." We continued on our drive to IL passing the belching factories of Gary, Ind and many corn fields, however, something that hadn't escaped either of us was the phenomenal amount of tolls we had to go through, 60c here, $1.50 there one we even skipped through without paying (accidentally of course...) we must have spent about $20 just on Tolls.

Syracuse, NY to Toledo, OH: 450 miles
It was the getting going that was the hardest thing - loading up the truck with our bags, cases and 'stuff' took a while as Steve skillfully played Suitcase Tetris in the bed of the pick up. Once everything was in we did the usual look around and Steve came out of the door to say: "what is really important that we've missed?" umm... is it mine? I asked no, yours? no. Ollie's food! wrapped up in our own things we forgot Ollie's food. We wedged the food in the bed after having to move some things around, now we were ready to go. After fond farewell's we waved out of the truck and set off down Forestedge Drive towards Toledo, OH.
